"Service Above Self," our Rotary motto, is not a new idea. There is power in these words, however, and when we join together this power can be put to such amazing purpose locally, nationally and globally. Historically, Rotary has been the power behind such organizations as UNESCO, The United Nations and the campaign to eradicate the dread disease of polio with Polio Plus. In our communities Rotary is known to be the club with much regard and respect. Presidents, Premiers, Mayors and many other leaders have been and are Rotarians worldwide. We are a part of 1.2 million men and women in over 140 countries who serve daily in their communities and businesses living by another standard we call "The Four Way Test." This test is a standard by which we can measure and judge our decisions and actions. This test is the foundation of the things we think, say or do: "Is it the truth?" "Is it fair to all concerned?" "Will it build goodwill and better friendships?" "Will it be beneficial to all concerned?" We are looking for others to join us in pursuit of the Rotary purpose and ideals building a better world.

Our mission is to promote and protect San Carlos Airport and its flight operations, and to enhance the safety and spirit of General Aviation through participation in local community activities.

SCAPA is a non-profit, 501c3 organization founded in February 1986, by Herb Foreman and Walt Ramseur with the assistance of a core group of other supportive pilots based at San Carlos Airport. Jay White, President of California Pilots Association, provided guidance in writing SCAPA’s by-laws and constitution. The original idea behind SCAPA’s founding was to organize pilots based at San Carlos Airport into a force that would work to keep San Carlos Airport open into the next millennium. At the time, it was apparent that cooperation needed to be cultivated with community and governmental agencies regarding noise and safety issues and proposed airport projects. Camaraderie among fellow pilots was also an important element of the organizing effort.

Today, SCAPA is run by a thirteen-member Board of Directors and is one of the largest airport pilot groups in the nation with over 300 members.

Caltrain provides commuter rail service along the San Francisco Peninusla, through the South Bay to San Jose and Gilroy.

The San Francisco and San Jose Railroad Company began passenger rail service on the Peninsula in 1863. The system we know today as Caltrain had its start in 1992, when the Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board (PDF Agreement, 1.42MB) took over the operation of the train.

The BART story began in 1946. It began not by governmental fiat, but as a concept gradually evolving at informal gatherings of business and civic leaders on both sides of the San Francisco Bay. Facing a heavy post-war migration to the area and its consequent automobile boom, these people discussed ways of easing the mounting congestion that was clogging the bridges spanning the Bay. In 1947, a joint Army-Navy review Board concluded that another connecting link between San Francisco and Oakland would be needed in the years ahead to prevent intolerable congestion on the Bay Bridge. The link? An underwater tube devoted exclusively to high-speed electric trains.
