Last year, we raised over $3 million providing critical funding for the educational excellence we expect in Hillsborough. Together, we have pioneered a new approach to public education by making our children and their futures a key priority in our community.

While our community is donating dollars for our schools through the Annual Giving Campaign, we are also participating in HSF Events, which raise substantial revenue through exciting community activities and events. Each fall, HSF Events sponsors the Hillsborough Classic Tennis Tournament and Luncheon, followed in the winter by the Dinner Dance and Auction. We close our school year with Family Fun Day in June, an event which combines the Family Fun Run and Carnival for one great community building affair. Our school year is packed with wonderful events and fundraising, and HSF appreciates the enormous commitment of our families to support excellence in our Hillsborough schools.

Burlingame Montessori and Glen Oaks Montessori are dedicated to providing children the highest standard in Montessori education.

Our programs are aimed at developing the intellectual, emotional and social independence of the child in a multi-cultural setting. Each child is encouraged to develop at their own rate, benefiting from a high level of individual teacher attention and motivation. Our cozy classrooms and stimulating materials make Burlingame Montessori an excellent environment for a child's potential to be guided and nurtured.

The schools are owned and administered by Lynette L. Caron, who recieved her American Montessori Teaching Credential and M.Ed. in 1976 from the College of Notre Dame. We are the sister school of Glen Oaks Montessori.

The Phillips Brooks School, founded in 1978, is an independent, coeducational day school located in Menlo Park, California. We enroll 276 students in preschool through fifth grade. Class size ranges from 14-16 in the preschool and 18-20 in kindergarten through grade five. Basic subjects are taught in self-contained classrooms, and the specialist teachers provide additional instruction in art, library, music, physical education, science, technology and Spanish.

At Phillips Brooks, we believe that understanding is even more important than getting the correct answer. We maintain a strong academic curriculum that is designed to focus on process more than product. There is a lifetime to learn. Therefore we want our children to develop habits of learning which provide enough joy to sustain their passion for learning well into the future. Of equal importance is the Phillips Brooks commitment to raising students to be good people. Our teachers believe in blending the academic, physical and social aspects of the program with spiritual awareness and understanding.

Chai Preschool unites children, teachers, family and community in a positive and constructive early childhood experience.

Our Jewish values drive the curriculum, environment and school culture. We model and encourage kindness, respect, compassion, confidence and responsibility. Judaism teaches that the formative years of early childhood are vitally important. A child is viewed as a seed that we nurture with the utmost care, since the seed's every experience will shape and color the quality of its matured self.

Judaism underscores the uniqueness of every child with the axiom "chanoch l'naar al pi darko," teaching us to train children according to their individual paths. We recognize that each child has his or her unique needs, interests and passions. Our children are viewed as collaborators: they are competent, curious, inquisitive, unique, and creative.

The newly built Merv Griffin Quad sits squarely in the center of the campus and student life at San Mateo High. It includes an amphitheatre built in the Greek style and the Thomas Mohr clock tower, named after a longtime district superintendent and reminiscent of the tower and chimes that were removed from the building during the 1934-35 structural reinforcements. This beautiful and welcoming courtyard is a popular gathering place for students during lunchtime and rallies.

Other improvements to the school have occurred since the 2002 Centennial including transformation of the main athletic stadium with all-weather surfaces for football and soccer and an 8-lane all-weather track; remodeling of the swimming pool in 2003-05; an expanded weight room; and the building of a joint-use Community Gym housing the wrestling and dance rooms and a full-court basketball area.

Private Schools

Our mission statement calls upon us to create a community in which our members can thrive.  We want our students and teachers to discover their best.  We then seek ways to bring forth that “best self”.

We offer diverse opportunities for students to explore and develop their passions.  Small classes, creative learning environments and stimulating colleagues help fuel those interests.  Our athletics program, our visual and performing arts and our clubs and extra-curricular activities further foster opportunities for self-discovery, creative expression and personal growth.

Our small classes mean every student is known by his/her teachers and peers.  From these small classes come authentic and long-lasting relationships, which, in turn, cultivate profound teaching and learning.

It is my pleasure to welcome you to The Carey School’s website. This website will introduce you to our mission and our long history of providing a dynamic early childhood and elementary education to families on the mid-peninsula. Here you will find details about our academic and enrichment programs, the wonderful faculty that is at the heart of The Carey School experience, the active parent association, ways to give to The Carey School through our development and advancement programs, alumni information, admission procedures and information, and lots of news from and about Carey Students.

The Carey School is a special place. We are marked by a strong academic program that values the individual learning experience of each child. But a Carey education goes beyond the building of strong academic skills. As the fifth grade students remind me when I ask them what they value about The Carey School, they say it is a school where kindness, community, trust, respect, joy, and safety permeate their daily interactions with each other and the faculty. We are truly a community where learning flourishes.

In 1907, educator Mary Lockey founded Castilleja to prepare women for the academic rigors of a college curriculum, a progressive departure from the status quo, especially on the West Coast. More than 100 years later, Castilleja looks different, but remains true to Miss Lockey's mission to give each young woman an "educated heart." Our core values, the 5cs, also remain the same: conscience, character, courtesy, charity, and courage. And we definitely still challenge the status quo.

Castilleja girls are the doers of the 21st century, the risk takers, leaders, dreamers, and innovators who will change the world. They are, and always have been, Women Learning, Women Leading.

Cañada College is a unique community college. Because it is one of the smallest community colleges in the Bay Area we are more like a private college. Our class sizes are small and our faculty has one mission - to help you achieve your academic goals. You won't find yourself in a large lecture hall being taught by a graduate student. Many members of our faculty have earned Ph.D.'s and they enjoy mentoring students. That's one reason we are historically one of California 's best community colleges when it comes to transferring students to four-year schools.

While we are small, we have a full array of courses that transfer to universities as general education requirements. We also have the first University Center developed in California. It offers bachelor's degrees in nursing, child and adolescent development, business administration, art, and psychology, as well as credential programs. More than 1,000 students are on campus earning degrees in this unique program funded by the California Legislature. Our original and largest partner in this effort is San Francisco State University .
